Celebrating Grab Some Nuts Day

If there is one thing we’re TOTALLY about here at LCL its grabbing life by the “nuts” and running with it!

I’m all about making goals and charging forward with them.  Every January I write a blog about making Goals instead of resolutions–and this year Clare and I have been posting weekly about our progress–If you’ve not been following, mine are posted Monday, and Clare’s are on Fridays.  Sign up with us to keep updated!

I’m all about finding the hurdle and jumping over it.  In fact in my blog Get In My Way, I EMBRACE IT!  Go read, or re-read it  and #grabsomenuts

2016 Goals update #2 LL

Last week was amazing! Seriously. I started the year off on a new journey. I had more time to do the things I wanted to do. I am taking this extra time and running with it. I have a honeymoon coming up and I know two weeks away will be amazing but it will also be two weeks of catching up on. Here’s where I am at this wee:

Health:  I’m back on my running routine with Eric. I also snagged a Pilates session with my mentor. So far my goal of staying consistent in my workouts is going great!

Personal: I wanted to make a point this year to stay in touch (not just via text) with friends who live out of the country. I set up two facetime dates this week. One of us will be having coffee the other spirits. Cannot wait!

JobLove: I scheduled a new workshop and am working out the details of my first one to be filmed.

I keep saying Happy New Year to people. I know it’s no longer “new” but something about “New Year” brightens peoples eyes and smiles. So, Happy New Year

2016 Goals Plan- LL

I am really excited to share with all of you my 2016 plan. As I mentioned in “How not to make resolutions” I do not make any resolutions for the year. Instead I use the new year to reflect on what I enjoyed about the year before. Then make a clearer map for the year ahead.

I do not cling to goals. If a goal isn’t working, I simply ask it if it wants to work or if it needs a new plan. So, my readers, here is what I am working towards for 2016 and even beyond:

This year I will remind myself that I want a Fierce and Fabulous Life!

Health: Stay Consistent, Stay Positive and put myself first

Sure I want a handstand in yoga…still (I am so much closer). But I don’t want to put some arbitrary date on this said handstand. I will get handstand and so much more if I continue to do my yoga regularly.

It’s easy for me to beat myself up for not being able to do something. I am a perfectionist and a creative. A perfect combo for negative thinking. As I approach a challenge and I hear the neg self talk begin to whisper I smile, I literally say to myself “live fierce and fabulously” and that gives me the strength to squash that self talk that serves no purpose.

Personal: Consolidate and Organize

I happen to have a few things that do the same thing. Bank accounts, sweatshirts, email addresses, and some social channels. It’s time my minimalist living takes over a little bit more of my lifestyle not just my apartment style.

Job Love: Plan, Produce and Grow

I quit my salaried job at the end of last year. It’s the second time in less than a decade that I left the security of a salary to live my dream. I am super excited and of course happily scared. There’s a lot I have to do today to make the rest of the year even exist. I want my website to be full of workshops for instructors and blogs of inspiration. However, I can’t do a years worth of anything in one day. So, I set up a plan for January, February and March. I will take a moment end of march to see what’s working and what’s not. For their to be growth I must produce my product. For their to be product I must plan.

There are my three major themes my loves. Stay tuned for next week to hear what I did towards these goals. Don’t forget we want to hear from you. Share your goals with us!

How to NOT make Resolutions

So, I don’t make resolutions. If you read last year’s New Years blog, you know this about me already: I refuse. I will not buy into the hype. I will not go to the gym more, diet a certain way,  doing this or that just because its January 2016. You, Hallmark, Oprah, and others cannot make me.

However, I do use the roll over to a new year to take a look back at what I have been doing. Reflect on what I like, don’t like, need, don’t need, want and don’t want. I set goals based on my desires. Then I share these thoughts with Clare, my Husband and anyone else I feel needs to be in the know. Maybe it’ll even be you!

Last year my theme was to Love the Skin I’m In. I kicked that off with a 30 day yoga challenge. I did do 30 days of Yoga. I did go through the year enjoying who I am more. This goal for 2015 started because I caught myself not loving how I looked. Instead of berating myself, I took time to get into the present moment. What was I avoiding by berating myself. What tasks, to do’s or feelings was I avoiding by hating on myself?

Instead of wishing I were taller, thinner, tanner, or anything else outwardly physical: I moved. I moved my thoughts or my body or both at the same time! I stopped expecting things to just “happen.” Instead, I did things that would lead to what I wanted to happen.

Let me give you an example. As 2014 ended I really did not feel myself. I was just recovering from a broken leg that sidelined me for a month. No walking for a month. The body I was in didn’t feel like mine. I wasn’t super stoked. But as I mentioned in my 2015 start I did my yoga 30 days in a row. I also gave myself a challenge. A Pilates Education opportunity auditions only one time a year. I had 10 months to get stronger than before my injury. I made a commitment to do just that. I committed to at minimum 3 Pilates sessions a week. So, after my yoga challenge, I moved into a routine that I could keep up with regularly. When I felt my mind get upset about something I couldn’t do that I felt I should be able to do I made myself take a deep breath. Then I thought about it backwards. Much like I do goals. I looked at the problem: I can’t do ____. What would be the step below or before? What would be the step below that? What would come before that and so on and so on until I got to something I knew I could do. I worked my way backwards through the problem until I found something I could accomplish. Then I would follow this new map. You know what? It worked! 10 months into 2015 I found myself getting married and auditioning for 1 of 12 spots in the program I set out to audition for.

I left my audition knowing I did the best I could. I had the most amazing wedding and not once did I look at myself and wish anything looked differently.

I acheived my goals of 2015 and so much more and I didn’t have to resolve to do anything!  And I do believe all of this started with my goal to love myself, inside and out.

So, my dear reader how can you skip the resolutions and just win 2016? Think about what you wish you had, think about what you constantly complain about. For example, if you wish you had a new car then write down the new car, the cost and all the details. Then work backwards. What would you have to do to get yourself to be able to go to the lot? What would you have to do to get to the spot before the lot spot? Keep going backwards until you are at the present moment reading this post. Take your bullet point map and fill in any other sub bullet points if needed. Maybe you need to make more money? Or get a new job. Write in the steps to complete the major bullet point. It may take you more than 2016 it may take you less! Time doesn’t matter. It’s your desire, it can take as long as you want or need.

If you complain about something a lot like how you look, for example, or being single, or your job. Take that topic. Reverse it. Instead of I am tired of my job. Write My New Amazing Job is ____. Then just like you did above write the steps to go from point A (you today) to point Z (your amazing goal to___). Again, this isn’t always going to be a 12 month map. It could easily be 3 months or even 3 years.

My roadmap for 2016 actually goes way beyond 2016’s calendar in some areas. It’s shorter than the calendar in others. I desire to live life more fierce and fabulously. My roadmap and thoughts will filter through that. There will be detours. It’s the game of life. Detours are not always bad by the way. Nowhere in my 2015 goals did I write “get married” (I wasn’t even engaged) or quit salary and be my own boss. Both happened and both were awesome!!

Grab your feelings, your dreams and a piece of paper and pencil (it’s easier to erase as needed) and map it out! Maybe you could even meet Oprah!

Happy New Years and happy mapping! And stay tuned to this blog in the upcoming weeks (maybe even follow or subscribe so you don’t miss ANYTHING)–we’re going to have some fun posts and a big announcement soon!!

Desire: the New Goal Movement

Do not worry!  This is not another “How to set Resolutions you can stick to” blog.  I SWEAR! In fact you will never hear me talk about resolutions. Why? Well, I am just not sure anyone actually writes ones they want to do. More often they make resolutions they think they should do. Then, because these resolutions were not wholly yours, they are not kept, and the inevitable feeling of failure rears its ugly head.
I looked up the top resolutions for 2014. How many of these did you make last New Years?

1) Lose Weight

2) Get Organized

3) Spend Less, Save More

4) Enjoy Life to the Fullest

5) Staying fit and Healthy

6) Learn Something Exciting

7) Quit Smoking

8) Help Others in Their Dreams

9) Fall in Love

10) Spend More Time with Family

Now, how many of those did you Keep?  My point exactly!

So…like I said this is not a blog on resolutions. Resolutions just don’t work they way they are intended. Instead: set desires.  Resolutions rarely work. And don’t bother setting objective goals either. Nope! This year let’s set desires based on how you want to feel!  FEEL…you know feelings? Emotions. Desires! What does your heart and soul desire for your life this year and beyond?

Desire…the sexy Live ClareLesley way to prepare you for a positive path for your future! It’s the Fuck Yes way to set your “goals”. If you don’t desire the outcome, it’s a Fuck No! If something doesn’t resonate with you regularly, inevitably you’ll stop working towards it.  How do you want to feel next year about your career? What do you desire in your work life. How do you want to feel about your relationships? What do you desire in your friendships, partners?  How do you want to feel about your “insert your desire here”?

I know it sounds so odd to focus on desires at the beginning of the year; the end of the holiday season. But trust me it’s a much more positive way to achieve what you want in life to set goals based on feelings. Think about it. Example: how often did you say you were going to lose 10 lbs and only lost 8lbs. Then got frustrated, beat yourself up, and gave up?  What if instead of setting a measurable goal by the scale, you set a goal on how you want to feel about your body. For example in 2015 you want to see the beauty you possess. Treat your body like the temple it is. At the end of 2015 you want to look in the mirror and be proud of what you see. Then instead of counting every single calorie and binging out at the gym with the rest of the “resolutionaries” you made decisions based on feeling proud.

Lets look at some of the common resolutions and translate them into achievable desires.

Resolution: Spend less, Save More

Desire: Financially in Control

Would someone who is financially in control avoid checking their bank balance?  If you want to feel financially in control, you will filter important decisions through this feeling.  You may want to download a financial planner app to help you follow your money easier. Remember someone who is in control isn’t necessarily penny pinching. Instead, they know where there money is going and how much is going where and when.

Resolution: Go to the Gym

Desire: To have more energy

To feel more energetic will you get results sitting around and watching TV, eating salty foods? Or could you walk to the store instead of drive? Will you drink water instead of soda? Will you enjoy your food instead of eating because you think you need to? What activities give you an energetic feeling? Put those in your calendar and schedule your life around them.

Do you see where this is all going?  Somehow as we get older time flies faster. If you keep putting off setting goals you really want to achieve in your life you will wake up one day feeling regret or that it’s too late.  I am here to say that December is the new January! You don’t have to wait until the first of the year to get started.

Get honest with yourself about where you want your life to go someday. Get honest with your hearts desires! You are so freaking worth it! Ask your 100-year-old self what you want to tell stories about. How do you want to feel when you look back at your life. Work backwards from there. A year from now you will be so thrilled by what you started today.

Let’s ring in 2015 looking forward to being in control of how we want to FEEL not with all these rules about what can’t do anymore or what we need to do more of.  Feel Free, Feel Fresh and Feel Alive. Feel DESIRE in 2015!

Share your 2015 feelings and Desires with the Clare and I and the other Live ClareLesley Readers here!
